| Mmyeah. Tea is the solution to many things.
What am I doing these days, let's see...
Writing. Writingwritingwriting. Lots. Not well, but it's enjoyable. (Considering doing the suicidal and signing up for NaNo...)
RP? Well, of course. I've fallen back into online RP somewhat, actually, through the dubious virtue of having my brain stolen by fandom - playing a character which is not an original is a different kind of challenge and sort of intrigues me. I'm still doing other kinds of RP as well. (Speaking of fandom, I'm actually writing fanfiction - something I never thought would happen... as I've commented, uh, things have been changing around here. *amused* )
I don't seem to be able to reliably keep up with more than one journal at any given time, so in case anyone even still remembers who I am, I thought I'd let you know where I dwell more... often... these days. here. ...though in all honesty I think the content of that journal is so very different to the kinds of things I used to post here as to be almost unrecognisable. And because of a few issues with people I'd rather weren't reading about my daily life (RL people, no-one online - odd as that may be) I made the journal largely friends-only about ten months back and never got around to changing back. I'm more comfortable with a touch more privacy, these days.
In many ways Xanga doesn't feel like much of a natural home to me at the moment. There are things I like a lot better about LJ, largely to do with community and my ability to actually communicate with people through it - a lot easier to hold conversations, etc. I've somehow ended up with a great network of friends there.
And now for some entirely random pieces of news, in no particular order:
1. I'm going to Japan over christmas, with a good friend of mine. I think it'll be rather fantastic. Definitely an Adventure.
2. I'm single.
3. I'm single because I have no discernable interest in men at this point in time, and a slight and tentative interest in women. Um. Still working on figuring this one out.
4. I spent two and a half weeks this summer touring Europe with a different friend! (Syl, who I'm pretty sure has been mentioned here before.) We went through France, then across into Italy (Verona then Venice), over into Croatia (Zagreb), Hungary (Budapest -- which we left just in time, actually. The day before the riots), Austria (Vienna), and the Czech Republic (Prague) - all this by train. Amazing experience.
5. I got drafted into writing animal bone reports for Sedgeford. :| And I'm doing some teaching there next year. Slightly afraid but also... flattered?

| I've been doing sorting work on animal bone assemblages from Tell Taya, which is a Mesopotamian site, for the last month. It's been interesting and good practice. The way the bone (which was excavated 35 years ago) was packaged was fairly fascinating in its own right.
As for the rest? Hmm. Writing a substantial essay every week - at least one a week - for three+ months, and then launching straight into exams. It kind of takes it out of you.
But I'm doing well over here. Getting geared up for my final year. My dissertation project has turned out to be on animal bone remains, though I thought long and hard about doing human bone work. But I get access to the Museum of London's animal bone collections for this. It's basically work examining the presence of different "types" (by which we mean things-which-are-a-bit-like-breeds-but-not-really) of cow in early medieval England based on a few cranial measurements. Details are tedious, probably.
I continue to go to gigs, roleplay, read, and watch a little too much anime.
Hope you're all well.

| Phew. A substantial quantity of work later, and I have a little space to breathe again.
Now I just need to get my sleep patterns back to something vaguely normal and all will be well. | | |
| I have been fairly excessively introspective, of late. It goes in phases, I suppose, and this is definitely a thinking phase.
I've identified a lot of things about myself which I dislike, though I
don't mean to sound overly negative in saying this, because overall I'm
still feeling positive; it's more a case of identifying sources of
problems so I can maybe eventually root them out. Until then, it at
least helps me know when I'm being an idiot, when I'm overreacting,
when I'm reacting based on a situation in the past not the present, or
any other oddity from the list of things I shouldn't really do.
Otherwise, I've been writing fic of dubious quality/interest, listening
to a lot of Tori Amos, getting back in touch with my inner fangirl (uh.
yes, you should be scared)... I've been talking to someone I didn't
really realise I missed so much, and I'll have to see her soon. It's
been too long.
I keep looking at myself and realising how much I've changed, for better or worse or just plain different.
On the whole, I'm happier than I have been in years. That's got to count for something.

| I have been acting all insomniac for the last week. Today, I must write
an essay, but someone has borrowed all my relevant books, it looks like.
*headdesk*
I guess I skipped my monthly entry for November! But only by a day. ;)
